Since 1995, Güneş has worked as a senior executive in the energy and infrastructure sector and has been involved in due diligence, feasibility studies and/or feasibility assessments, project finance, valuation, site selection, privatisation, project and contract management of various build-operate, build-operate-transfer, transfer of operating rights and integrated infrastructure projects and commercial energy and mining investments.
He currently provides investment consultancy services for energy and infrastructure projects and lectures in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at various universities in these fields.
Güneş, who has published numerous articles and interviews on the energy sector, has published academic studies on “Concession Companies”, “Tax Applications in Build-Operate, Build-Operate-Transfer and Transfer of Operating Rights”, “Energy and Infrastructure Investment Models”, and “All Aspects of Electricity Market Operations”.
His main areas of expertise are the build-operate-transfer model, investment law in energy markets, electricity market law, capacity projection and price forecasting models, market simulation, production planning, portfolio optimisation, tariffs, bidding zones, electricity trading, renewable energy, incentive programs, privatisation, regulation, international energy investments, project finance, and project and contract management. He is a Board Member of the Energy Law Research Institute and an arbitrator at the Energy Dispute Resolution Center (EDAC).
His article titled “International Commercial Arbitration and Tax Consequences” was awarded the “Legislation Award” in the “Fasih Inal Economics Awards” category by DÜNYA Newspaper in 1999.
