Evidencing the Effects of the Earthquake Disaster on the Electricity Market as Force Majeure and its Legal Framework

In the electricity market, force majeure events are extraordinary events that have significant consequences both in the investment phase and in the operation phase for legal entities operating in the sector.

Following the devastating earthquake disasters that happened on and after February 6, 2023, and affected 11 provinces in total, all market activities, especially electricity generation activities, were affected. In addition to the existing regulations in the relevant legislation, various regulations have been made after February 6, 2023, and continue to be made through administrative actions such as laws, decrees, regulations, board decisions, etc.
